Ontario Child and Youth Telepsychiatry – Western Hub
Resulting from an expansion of the Ontario Child and Youth Telepsychiatry services in Ontario, CPRI has become the hosting organization for the Western Hub in partnership with London Health Sciences Centre, St Joseph's Regional Mental Health Care London, Windsor Regional Hospital and the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, University of Western Ontario.
The Western Hub uses Videoconferencing technology to provide children, youth and their families or caregivers access to clinical consultations with a child psychiatrist without having to leave their local communities.
All referrals to the Western Hub are through a children's mental health agency. The agencies are designated by the Ministry of Children and Youth services as areas that lack in Child and Adolescent psychiatry resources. The agencies currently served by the Western Hub are as follows:
- Trellis Mental Health and Developmental Services, Guelph
- Huron Perth Centre for Children and Youth, Stratford and Clinton
- St Clair Child and Youth, Point Edward
- Oxford-Elgin Child & Youth Centre, Woodstock and St Thomas
- Haldimand Norfolk R.E.A.C.H.
- Woodview Children's Centre, Brantford
Psychiatric consultations are one time consultations with youth, their families and their case manager at the children's mental health agency . Needless to say, the technology of video conferencing is making it easier to provide rural and remote areas with a much needed service !
