About Us
Who does the Pratten One Complex Care Program help?
We offer specialized assessment and treatment services to children and youth from birth to 18 years of age with complex medical fragility and/or technology dependence. The children on this unit may present with cerebral palsy, genetic syndromes, feeding difficulties, neurological disorders and associated developmental delays.
What does the Pratten One program do?
Once a referral to the program has been accepted a clinical consult appointment is set up for our team to meet you and your child. This consult determines eligibility to the program. Members of the Pratten One interdisciplinary team include: Developmental Paediatrician, Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses, Child Life Specialist, Child Care Workers, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech-Language Pathologist, Dietician and Social Worker.
We offer two types of Intensive Services Admissions: Day Treatment or Overnight Admissions.
A typical admission is 1 week per month. The purpose of the admissions is to monitor, assess and provide treatment for medical (such as oxygen therapy, oral/tube feeding, respiratory, seizure monitoring/management, and optimizing health status) and developmental goals (such as fine/gross motor, communication, and independent play/sensory).
During an admission the children don't attend their community schools but are involved with the Child Life Program. This program focuses on developmental and psychosocial needs of the child.
Family also plays a vital role in the child’s treatment. Before admission, parents help in setting short term goals and making action plans. During the child’s involvement with the us, parents/guardians and community team members meet on an ongoing basis to review assessment results, your child’s progress and plans for transition and discharge to community resources.
To assist with the transition to Pratten One Program families may stay overnight on grounds in the Oakwood Cottage/Pratten Family Suite.
Where does this happen?
Our unit is on the first floor of the Pratten Building at CPRI in London. (That’s why it’s called “Pratten One.”) Our workers also make visits to your home.
